Managing Active & Inactive Devices in Workspace
1. Active vs Inactive - What It Means
- Active - the device works normally: it can be armed, disarmed, and generates events.
- Inactive - the device is switched off. It can't be armed, disarmed, or activated.
Areas (device groups) also have their own active/inactive status, and it's inherited: turning an area off switches off every device and sub-area inside it too.
⚠️ Note: An inactive device still appears on your invoice if it's still connecting to the server. |
2. Checking an Area's Status
Go to the Devices view and select an area in the sidebar. You'll see its status (Active/Inactive) next to its name, plus a count of active and inactive devices inside it.
3. Turning an Area On or Off
If you have permission, a power icon appears next to the area name. Click it, then confirm - this activates or deactivates the area, and everything inside it.
The power icon won't appear if:
- It's the workspace's main active or inactive area (these can't be changed)
- It's a top-level area
- A parent area above it is still inactive - activate that first
4. Moving Devices Between Areas
Moving a device into an active area makes it active; moving it into an inactive area makes it inactive.
- Check the box next to one or more devices in the table.
- Use Move to area in the action bar that appears.
- Pick a target area, then confirm.
5. Activating or Deactivating a Single Device
Open the device, then use the Activate device / Deactivate device button in its header, and confirm.
ℹ️ Note: This button only appears if the device's area is active. If the area is inactive, activate the area first, or move the device to an active area. |
