How to configure eSIM for new Bridges

Prev Next

How the eSIM (Onboard SIM) Works

The latest hardware Bridge automatically selects the most appropriate mobile data connectivity option. By default, the new Bridge is configured to automatically select the available SIM source in the following order:

  1. The Bridge checks for a physical SIM card in the SIM slot.

  2. If a valid physical SIM is detected, it is used as the first option.

  3. If no physical SIM is detected, the Bridge automatically switches to the onboard SIM.

This provides a true out-of-the-box experience with no manual configuration required. The correct server address will be programmed on the bridge during the initial claiming of the new devices.

No Physical SIM Installed

If no physical SIM card is detected or configured in the Bridge, the Bridge will automatically use the onboard SIM to establish a cellular connection.

No additional configuration is required. The installer can proceed to make tamper alarms to test bridge connectivity to the server.

Physical SIM Installed

If a physical SIM card is inserted and the Bridge can automatically read the required APN settings from the SIM, the Bridge will use the physical SIM and connect without any manual programming. If the SIM does not support reading the APN, the installer needs to configure the APN in the Installation app in Bridge Device configuration menu.

Using only a Physical SIM

If you prefer to use your own cellular subscription exclusively and do not want the Bridge to use the onboard SIM, you can configure the Bridge to operate in Physical SIM Only mode.

Steps

  1. Open the Installation App.

  2. Enable Advanced configuration in the App settings first.

  3. Open the Bridge Device configuration view.

  4. Check which SIM the bridge is currently using in the read-only Current SIM slot parameter

  5. Find the configurable parameter Use integrated SIM.

  6. Set the parameter value to:
0 - for physical SIM only
    1 - for eSIM/onboard SIM only
2 - for the default automatic regime

  7. Save the chosen Bridge configuration

Important Notes

  • The physical SIM slot remains available on all Bridge hardware versions.

  • No programming is required when using the onboard SIM.

  • No programming is required when using a physical SIM that provides APN settings automatically.

  • The onboard SIM ensures uninterrupted connectivity when a physical SIM is not installed.
