1. Introduction
Lithium-ion (Li-ion) batteries are widely used for their high energy density and efficiency. However, improper handling can lead to hazards such as fire, explosion, or chemical leakage. This guide outlines key safety practices for using, storing, charging, and disposing of lithium-ion batteries.
2. When NOT to Use Lithium-Ion Batteries
Avoid using a lithium-ion battery if it shows any of the following signs:
a. Physical Damage
- Dented, cracked, or punctured casing
- Exposed internal components or torn insulation
b. Swelling or Bulging
- A swollen battery indicates internal gas buildup, which poses an explosion risk
c. Overheating During Use or Charging
- Excessive heat, burning smell, or signs of melting
- Battery remains hot even after the charging is complete
d. Leakage or Corrosion
- Visible liquid leakage or corrosion around terminals
- White or green residue buildup
e. Charging or Voltage Issues
- Inconsistent charging behaviour or rapid discharge
- Battery does not charge at all or holds charge for a very short time
f. Smoke, Sparks, or Burning Smell
- Any signs of smoking, sparking, or an unusual odour indicate an immediate safety risk
g. Aging and Excessive Use
- Batteries beyond their lifespan (typically 2-5 years or 300-500 charge cycles) should be replaced
3. Proper Storage of Lithium-Ion Batteries
- Store batteries in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat sources
- Maintain storage temperature between 15°C - 25°C (59°F - 77°F)
- Keep batteries at 40-60% charge if stored for extended periods
- Avoid placing batteries in metal containers or conductive surfaces to prevent short circuits
- Use fireproof storage bags for added protection
4. Charging Safety Guidelines
- Use only manufacturer-approved chargers
- Charge batteries in a well-ventilated area, away from flammable materials
- Do not leave batteries charging overnight or unattended for extended periods
- Do not charge batteries near extreme heat sources (e.g., radiators, stoves)
- Disconnect the charger once the battery is fully charged
- Avoid using fast chargers unless specified by the manufacturer
Battery Charger Specifications
The recommended battery charger for these lithium-ion batteries has the following specifications:
- Input Voltage: 100-240V AC, 50/60Hz
- Output Voltage: 12.6V DC
- Maximum Output Current: 3A
- Charging Temperature Range: 0°C to 45°C
- Safety Features: Overvoltage protection, short circuit protection, overcurrent protection, and thermal shutdown

5. Protection Circuit Module (PCM) Specifications
To ensure safety and longevity, the lithium-ion batteries are equipped with a Protection Circuit Module (PCM) that regulates charging, discharging, and overall battery health. The specifications of the PCM are as follows:
- Model: PCM-L01S08-442 (1S)
- Manufacturer: GBP BATTERY CO., LTD
- Maximum Continuous Charging Current: 5A
- Maximum Continuous Discharging Current: 5A
- Overcharge Protection:
- Detection Voltage: 4.25 ± 0.05V
- Release Voltage: 4.05 ± 0.1V
- Delay Time: 10ms – 200ms
- Over-discharge Protection:
- Detection Voltage: 2.50 ± 0.1V
- Release Voltage: 2.50 ± 0.1V
- Delay Time: 0.5s – 2s
- Overcurrent Protection:
- Detection Current: 12 ± 2A
- Detection Delay Time: 200 – 800µs
- Release Condition: Cut load
- Short Circuit Protection:
- Detection Delay Time: 200 – 800µs
- Release Condition: Cut load
These features help prevent overcharging, deep discharge, overcurrent, and short-circuit events, significantly improving battery reliability and user safety.
6. Limited Battery Warranty
Warranty Coverage
We warrant that our lithium-ion batteries are free from defects in material and workmanship for the warranty period (usually 24 months) from the date of purchase. During this period, we will replace or repair, at our discretion, any battery found to be defective under normal use and conditions.
Exclusions
This warranty does not cover:
- Damage caused by misuse, abuse, or neglect
- Unauthorised modifications or repairs
- Normal wear and tear, including capacity degradation
- Exposure to extreme environmental conditions
- Improper storage or handling
- Damage caused by accident, fire, or natural disaster
Claim Process
To make a warranty claim, please provide proof of purchase and a detailed description of the issue. Contact our customer support team at support@reconeyez.com for further assistance.
7. Disposal and Recycling of Lithium-Ion Batteries
- Never dispose of lithium-ion batteries in household trash
- Take damaged or end-of-life batteries to a certified recycling centre
- Follow local regulations for hazardous waste disposal
- If unsure, contact the battery manufacturer for guidance
8. Manufacturer Details & Documentation
For specific information on the lithium-ion batteries supplied, including the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) and technical documentation, please refer to the manufacturer’s manual or contact:

9. Emergency Procedures
- In case of a battery fire, evacuate the area and contact emergency services
- If exposed to battery chemicals, wash affected skin with water and seek medical attention
- If a battery shows signs of thermal runaway (smoking, hissing, extreme heat), move it to a safe outdoor area if possible and let it burn out safely
