Active vs Inactive - What It Means - **Active** - the device works normally: it can be armed, disarmed, and generates events. - **Inactive** - the device is switched off. It can't be armed, disarmed, or activated. Areas (device groups) also have their own active/inactive status, and it's inherited: turning an area off switches off every device and sub-area inside it too. | ⚠️ **Note:** An inactive device still appears on your invoice if it's still connecting to the server. | | --- | ## 2. Checking an Area's Status Go to the Devices view and select an area in the sidebar. You'll see its status (Active/Inactive) next to its name, plus a count of active and inactive devices inside it. ## 3. Turning an Area On or Off If you have permission, a **power icon** appears next to the area name. Click it, then confirm - this activates or deactivates the area, and everything inside it. The power icon won't appear if: - It's the workspace's main active or inactive area (these can't be changed) - It's a top-level area - A parent area above it is still inactive - activate that first ## 4. Moving Devices Between Areas Moving a device into an active area makes it active; moving it into an inactive area makes it inactive. 1. Check the box next to one or more devices in the table. 2. Use Move to area in the action bar that appears. 3. Pick a target area, then confirm. ## 5. Activating or Deactivating a Single Device Open the device, then use the **Activate device** / **Deactivate device** button in its header, and confirm. | ℹ️ **Note:** This button only appears if the device's area is active. If the area is inactive, activate the area first, or move the device to an active area. | | --- | ## Quick Reference | **Action** | **How** | | --- | --- | | Check an area's status | Devices view - shown next to the area name | | Turn an area on/off | Devices view - power icon (needs permission) | | Move devices between areas | Devices view - "Move to area" in the action bar | | Turn a single device on/off | Device detail view - header button (area must be active) |
